Purpose
Every child is a gift of God. With this gift comes the responsibility to "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is aid he will not depart from it.* (Proverbs 22:6) This is the responsibility of the child's parents, but the Immanuel Lutheran Sunday School's objective is to assist parents in this task. The Sunday School is for adults too, as they have the chance to dig deeper into the Word, ask questions of the pastor that cannot be asked during the worship service, dialog and interact with others, fellowship, and form friendships.
How It Works
Classes start at 9:15 for children and adults and end at 10:15 a.m. beginning on the Sunday after Labor Day into June when public school ends. The children’s classes meet on the second floor of Geiger Hall, Immanuel Lutheran Church's educational and church office building at 121 Williamson Street. The adults meet in either the library/meeting room on the first floor or in the fellowship hall (church basement). The Sunday school is currently using materials from CPH, Enduring Faith. With the children, we incorporate Bible study, video, games, puzzles, crafts, and music in swirl groups/large group to meet the different learning styles that children have. The children's favorite thing that we do each year is the Christmas musical, which is performed during a worship service in December.
